Salmon Jerky?

September 2nd, 2010FoodSalmon Jerky!

So, this was not a thing I knew that existed, up until the point where I saw it in the check out line at local hippie grocery store Open Harvest. And given my recent flirtations with pescetarianism, I figured I had to give this a try. At $1.79 for a couple of kippers, who am I to argue?
Note the shiny appearance of the jerky. One would, from this, expect it to be quite greasy. This in fact was not the case. While it did have a little greasiness to it, as a jerky would, that shine is due to some weird plasticy quality of the jerky. I kind of felt like I wasn’t eating real food. As though I were eating a decorative wax salmon. As you can imagine, that was kind of a downside to the experience. The flavor wasn’t too horrible. Extremely peppery, and a lot of the jerky seasoning flavors. The salmon flavor doesn’t really get a chance to shine through, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on how you feel about fish. Really though, the plasticy quality of it kind of ruined it for me. I don’t think I’ll be buying it again.
Notice that not even the cat would eat it:

Fortunately, I got some pomegranate-mango juice and an espresso brownie for after.

Eh, kitties don’t like to eat anything too spicy. You should roast a whole chicken and feed that to your kitty. Or, just open up a nice can of tuna.
So how’s pescatarianism treating you?
